UWC scuba certifies students at Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM every month.

Blue Hole, Santa Rosa, NM

The best choice to get your certification done quickly and inexpensively is to go to Blue Hole with us. It's a great first dive experience with wonderful visibility in a spot that is recognized as one of the Top 10 inland diving locations in the U.S.

UWC goes down to BH once a month year round because it is the best diving conditions around here and only about 4.5 hours away from the Springs. It is a natural spring that is bottom fed, which means the water temperature is consistently in the low 60's year round. But the weather at the surface changes, so be sure to check the weather report when you go and bring appropriate clothing.

Monthly Schedule:

Open Water students only need to attend two of the three training days. We include three training dive days for those who are doing their Open Water Certification and Advanced Open Water in the same weekend or for those adding a PADI Specialty.

If you are taking multiple courses, please check with your instructor which days you need to be at Blue Hole

tentative bh schedule:

This schedule is written for Open Water students, but does roughly still apply to other classes.

  • Thursday
    - Pick up your rental gear (diving equipment, tanks, and weights) from UWC AFTER 12pm.
  • Friday
    - Plan on leaving Colorado Springs between 5:30am and 6:00am. The drive to Santa Rosa is about 330 miles; the drive normally takes about 4-5 hours, depending on your speed and the weather.
    - Regardless of your hotel arrangements, plan to arrive at La Quinta between 11:00am and 11:30am to meet your instructor. If you are unable to make this meeting, contact your instructor ahead of time.
    - Complete Open Water Dives 1, 2, and possibly 3.
  • Saturday
    - Your instructor will let you know what time your dives will start in the morning.
    - Complete Open Water Dives 3 and 4, depending on what was finished on Friday.
    - Optional add-on: Start the Advance dive program or specialty.
  • Sunday
    - Your instructor will let you know what time your dives will start in the morning.
    - This is the optional Peak Performance Buoyancy Fun Dive or Specialty. This is a great opportunity to get more time and experience underwater.
    - Check out time is 11:00am.
    - On the drive home, it is our custom to stop at the Pizza Hut in Las Vegas, NM. Here, we finish logging the dives done on Sunday. If for some reason you can't make this stop, please make arrangements with your instructor to complete this paperwork before or after you get back to Colo Springs.

Make your hotel reservations prior to departure for BH. UWC stays at the La Quinta. This is where we have the debriefings and fill our scuba tanks, however, there are several other hotels available in the area. When calling La Quinta, be sure to mention you're scuba diving with UWC to get a special diver's rate.
